Why you need to take personal responsibility for your health
Every day we are bombarded with stuff on all aspects of health and wellness. Diets, diabetes, obesity levels, dementia, heart disease, erectile dysfunction, etc etc, (you can go on and on and on).
On the back of the latest studies stating the blindingly obvious, (which are seemingly published on a daily basis), the media will then set the agenda for the day. This will then be discussed on an hourly basis ad nauseum for the rest of the day. At the end of the day it is put back into the filing cabinet ready to be trotted out next month.
Guess what, it doesn’t work, shaming people, stigmatising people, scaring people, is cheap journalism and incredibly unprofessional. Shock and depress people in a two-minute sound bite and move onto the next subject.
The media are telling you what to do, that you should cut down the amount of cream cakes or cans of Monster if you want to live a healthier life. The media are frightening you / telling you to stop being a drain on the NHS.
And as I have already said it doesn’t work, why do I say that is because the health of the nation is not getting better it is getting worse. Mental health problems are going through the roof, it is fundamentally not working.
I am writing this on a day when the latest report is showing that 20% of children leaving primary school are obese. To think that we have done this to our next generation is appalling.
The paradox here is that we live in the 21st century when ‘we know everything’, especially how our bodies work in great detail. However, we are sicker as a species that we have ever been, – genius.
There is something at work here and you need to know what it is if you are looking to find a better life and ‘Live Great’. Here is something you can do immediately if you are prepared to make the decision to change.
First and Foremost
Forget the media, forget the NHS, forget all of those fake articles of lithe women and men that adorn the magazine racks in the newsagents and go and look in the mirror. Look at your reflection and tell it you are not going to live any longer like this, (whatever your nightmare is).
You are making a decision this second to change your life and you are going to get healthy and stay healthy. This is about you, it is your health your life your choice and now it is your turn. Then repeat this again and again to your reflection. Then you are going to write it down and place it on doors where it can be seen constantly throughout the day, (especially the fridge door).
You have made a decision
You do not need to be told to do something because you have made the decision yourself. This is a subtle difference. You have taken control. People know what is good for them and what is bad it doesn’t need to be rammed down their throats by media folk looking to fill up air time.
Welcome to the rest of your life, as my PE teacher told me once “Peter, it doesn’t matter how long it takes as long as you finish the race”. This is the most inspiring thing anyone has ever said to me, make it your mantra.
Sorry to be so direct, you could call it tough love, but it is because I am passionate about people, that they should be happy and excel in life and live great. As I have said I am passionate about people and I want to empower people to take back control of their lives. Too many people have had a bad rub in life and believe they are locked into their environment and things will never get any better. Let’s show them what you are made of.
