Adapting to the 21st Century – Finding your inner self

Setting the scene

The technological change that has occurred in just a few decades is truly mindboggling, not only technology but how society has had to adapt and respond to that change. Change has also been forced upon us by the drive from manufacturing industry to increase profits and cut cost by outsourcing to cheaper labour  markets. Whether we like it or not, one thing is certain, we cannot turn back the clock.

Here are just some examples:

  • lost industries – ship building – steel – coal – textile – etc
  • outsourcing to the Far East
  • relocation to find work – new to area – away from family – loneliness – stress – insecurity
  • job insecurity – minimum wage – zero-hours contracts – stress
  • ‘me society’ – consumerism – selfishness – anger – intolerance

These have all had a destabilising effect on society. We no longer feel we have control on what is happening, we become overwhelmed and we can lose our ability to make our own decisions. This can easily spiral into a downward path leading to anxiety and depression.

Mental Health

What is happening in our world today is causing people great anxiety and I believe is at the root of the massive rise in mental health problems we are seeing across all ages in the second decade of the 21stCentury. It also destabilizes our physical wellbeing leading to making poor lifestyle choices that impact on our health, again leading to the rise of the 21st Century scourge of obesity and diabetes.

This is setting the scene and I am sure you can identity with this.

Taking back control – Finding your inner self

We have all been dumbed down and we are no longer listening to our inner self or Jiminy Cricket, your wise partner that is your guardian looking out for you. I can tell you, we are not what we have been told, we are more than we can ever imagine, and we have a potential that is so grossly untapped.

Once we can embrace that potential, we will begin to see ourselves differently. And once we see ourselves differently, we will be able to see the world differently. We have been knocked down and we have to get off the canvass and fight back. Yes, the world has changed forever, some-how we have to embrace it and find a way forward. The better we know ourselves the less we fear change in the world.

Life is fragile and beautiful it is precious and special and we need to embrace its awesomeness. The awakening is happening, people are no longer prepared to accept the world that has been presented for us.
